Christmas 2011

Christmas 2011

Merry Christmas everyone. This will be the first Christmas with Sammy pants. She is growing fast and is overall an easy baby. We are having a hard time with the nursing thing but she is still growing so something must be working. She sleeps really well and only waked 1-2 times at night. I have been so out of it lately that Christmas hasn't been all that great but I think next year will make up for it since Pants will be 1 year then.
We wen't to The Humes house for Christmas Eve
Then we wen't to my parents house to open each others gifts
Pants was all dressed up in her festive elf hat
Then we went to the Hubbs parents house to open presents

I woke up way early Christmas morning and got Christmas presents set out and cleaned the apartment for when Chris woke up. He still wasn't up so I went upstairs to watch everyone else open presents. This was Dads present. We made the tree the year before and this year my mom bought picture frames and we got the pictures together and put them up.
Pants smiling for Grandma and Grandpa
These were our stockings all full
The Hubbs finally awake opening his presents
Pants was not so happy about getting in her Christmas dress and going to church
Grandpa playing barbies with the grand kids

It was a crazy busy Holiday season but we made it through.

Baby Samantha is here!!

Samantha Shanti Green was born on November 20, 2011 at 2:04 AM. She weighed 8 pounds and 2 ounces and was 21 1/2 inches long. She was born at home into the loving arms of me and her daddy. She had a 2 foot cord that wrapped around her neck 3 times and once around her body. She came out very alert and looking all around her.
Her midwife was Rachel Talley and her doula was Rachelle Davis. They did an amazing job. Her aunt Alicia took pictures and video taped the birth. Grandma Stott was also there to help me with the labor.
Everything went really well and I had a very fast 3 1/2 hour labor. I delivered Sammy in a birth pool and would never do it any other way if I can help it.
We have an amazing, healthy, happy daughter now and we couldn't be happier. She is our everything.

Start of spring semester

Lots and lots have been happening lately. Chris and I moved out of our cute little apartment. We went from a 2 bedroom spacious apartment, to a one bedroom basement apartment at my parents. They have graciously allowed us to move in free while Chris and I are going through school.
The apartment has been renovated (thanks to a black mold issue in the kitchen) and looks pretty good if I do say so myself. Most everything fits and over all the apartment is quite comfortable.
So this is where my big life switch takes place. Last October, I quite a job that payed well and I was pretty happy with. I worked at a pediatric office that I had been working at for 3 years. They started requiring all employees receive the flu shot and I wasn't all that comfortable with getting it. So that was it. I have been out of work since. I figured that with the amazing offer to live rent free and no job, I might as well start school in what I have always wanted to do. I started Midwifery school. I registered at Midwives College of Utah and was accepted two weeks later. Two weeks after that, I started school. Life has been a complete whirlwind for me and my life is transforming in leaps and bounds. I just keep submitting to the universe and trusting that the Divine has a plan for me.
I am now two weeks into the program and realising how much I struggles with school growing up and how I wish I had a larger attention span. My AMAZING husband is going through school and working to support both of us while I am transitioning and remembering how to do the school thing again.
Overall I fell so blessed and I look forward to more enlightenment, friends, opportunities and bliss in the future!!!

Home Made Console Table

This weekend was the first weekend working on our projects from http://www.knock-offwood.com/. We started by cleaning up Chris parents garage. We live in a little apartment right now and their is not enough room for these kinds of projects. Chris got up at 9 cleaned the apartment, started cleaning out the garage and pretty much had is all cleaned by the time I got off work at 1. We got the supplies at Home Depot. The wood cost us about $30, screws $15, paint brush $3, stain $15, sand paper $5 and wool for stain $3. Total it cost about $70. This was our first project and so we had to buy a lot of things that we'll be able to use on our other projects. If we had most of the basic supplies already, this project probably would have cost us about $50-$60. Not too bad for a solid wood table. Chris was amazing and totally supportive through all of this.

Farm House Bed

This is what I really want to make. This is the building picture and the next two pictures are of beds that people have made from the plans on the website. The very last picture is the same design only with a canopy attached. I think we'll start with just the bed then see if we still have enough energy to build the canopy.

Second Project

This would be awesome to have in our entree way to hide shoes and I have been wanting something like this but have never had the money to do it. This piece sells at Pottery Barn for $500 and should only cost us around $60. Cant wait to get started!!

I fell in love with this one the minute I laid eyes on it. This will be mine and Chris ultimate challenge. It's the Madison Changing table. This sells at Pottery Barn for $1400. Hopefully it will only take us a few weeks and should cost us under $300. Now if only she had instructions on how to build a crib...

More Projects for Chris and Katrina

So I came across this awesome website. It's http://www.knock-offwood.com/. The website was created by a women named Ana. She just started recreating pieces of furniture she couldn't afford and then started posting the plans on her website. Their are some really cute things on there. Chris and I are going to make a piece every Saturday. Our first project is going to be this. Were going to work on it this Saturday and hopefully it will only take us 4 hours and it should only cost us around $50.

Our second project is going to be adding to our
entertainment center. So far this is what it looks like. Pretty sad huh?

Were going to make a upper piece to go around the TV and then add box book shelves to the sides to add storage space. It will look something like the pictures below.

This would be kind of what it would look like in the end.
